Hugh Gillis is 1st Vice President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU).
He is a trustee with the Nova Scotia Public Superannuation Pension Plan (NSPSSP), serves on the National Executive Board of the National Union Public and General Employees (NUPGE); is a Board member of Halifax PRIDE; and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for United Way Cape Breton. Hugh is a champion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility both provincially and federally. Hugh was a Canadian delegate to the ILGA World Conference in Cape Town, South Africa in 2024 along with delegates from more than 100 countries.
Hugh has an undergraduate degree from Cape Breton University, completed the Harvard University Trade Union program, and is a proud member of 2SLGBTQ+ community in Halifax.
